Carly Fiorina’s irresponsible remarks on U.S. military generals

By Sam Sholli

Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina on 15/12/2015, in a debate on CNN, was asked how she would defeat ISIS. She responded:

One of the things I would immediately do, in addition to defeating them here at home, is bring back the warrior class – Petraeus, McChrystal, Mattis, Keane, Flynn. Every single one of these generals I know. Every one was retired early because they told President Obama things that he didn’t want to hear.

Fiorina’s claim that all these generals were retired early after being frank with Obama has been rated as “Mostly False” by fact-checking website PolitiFact.

Most embarrassing for Fiorina is how John Keane retired from military service in 2003. Obama took office in 2009. Keane never served under Obama.

Moreover, one must question Fiorina’s judgment when declaring she would bring back David Petraeus.

Petraeus was forced to resign as CIA head in 2012 after investigators uncovered that he had shared classified materials with a woman who was writing his biography. He was also having an extramarital affair with her.

Further, Petraeus this year was urging U.S. officials to consider recruiting, training and arming members of al Qaeda’s Nusra Front to fight ISIS in Syria.

This is the same al-Qaeda that conducted the September 11 attacks, resulting in the deaths of almost 3,000 people on American soil.

Fiorina finished off her reply by quoting Margaret Thatcher:

If you want something talked about, ask a man, if you want something done, ask a woman.

To which I say, could we please request a different woman?
